Common Signs of Pregnancy

Most mothers can remember what their first sign of pregnancy was. For me, I got severe nasal congestion that turned into a head cold, followed by some pretty hilarious changes in my breasts. One of my patients shared with me that her first sign of pregnancy was an incredible aversion to anything cold (cold drinks, cold food, cold air, cold water, etc). We each have our individual first signs of pregnancy, but there are about 10-15 signs that are most common:

  1. Changes in your breasts
  2. Frequent urination
  3. Nausea and/or vomiting
  4. Fatigue and exhaustion
  5. Head congestion or a cold
  6. Puffy and sore gums
  7. Changes in cervical mucus
  8. Cramping and bloating
  9. Spotting
  10. Food sensitivity and aversion
  11. Metallic taste
  12. Temperature sensitivity
  13. Excess saliva
  14. Constipation
  15. Changes in mood or emotional sensitivity

Most, if not all of these signs are due to the intense fluctuations in hormones that occurs from the moment of conception. A few weeks into my first trimester I started experiencing intense exhaustion and remember falling asleep on the couch for an afternoon nap and not waking up until the next morning. I needed tons of sleep! The tools I used to help me through some of the rough changes during the first trimester were golden, and I love passing along the wisdom and helping my patients through this exciting first hurdle. No matter how intense or peculiar your symptoms may be, by working together we can find a way to ease or completely eliminate them.
